BIG BAM BOOM! Youth Arts Festival

By SNAP Downtown Toronto Staff

On the weekend of June 4th and 5th the BIG BAM BOOM: AFCY Youth Arts Festival, returned to Harbourfront Centre for the third consecutive year. The festival was presented by a dynamic group of young people who serve on the Advisory Council of Arts for Children and Youth (AFCY) and showcased the immense talents of young people in Toronto’s under-resourced communities. All participants were hand-picked from the schools and communities that took part in AFCY’s arts-educational programming during 2010-11.
The BIG BAM BOOM Festival incorporated Music, Dance, Visual Arts, Ceramics, Sculpture & Installations, Graffiti, Digital Arts as well as interactive activities that bridge gaps between generations. This year the show was hosted by YouTube sensation Femi Lawson, featuring a performance by The Moon Runners, Toronto’s number one break dancing crew.
BIG BAM BOOM is the annual signature event of AFCY, an arts-educational organization with charitable status that has won the Mayor’s Awards for Youth Arts. For more information visit www.afcy.ca
