COMMUNITY SITE PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Here is what we can provide for you:
- High quality hands-on workshops conducted by professional artists in Dance, Drama, Dub Poetry, Environmental Art, Film-Making/Video, Integrated Arts, Photography and Visual Arts.
- A choice of after-school and weekend workshops, which can take place once per week or more often.
- Programs tailored to children only, or to children with their parent or caregiver. Workshops start at Nursery (age 3) and go through age 29.
- Coordination of your workshop including program set-up, materials, scheduling artists and site visits.
- No costs (see fees section).
- A Professional Development workshop for community coordinators is available for a minimal fee.
ELIGIBILITY AND SELECTION
The following groups are eligible to participate in AFCY’s Outreach Programs: organizations in low-income areas of the Greater Toronto Area, who have limited arts programming for children, and not-for-profit organizations that service children and youth with financial, social and language barriers. Applications are processed on a first come, first served basis. Staff from your organization are required to provide support to the visiting artist(s) during the workshop.
HOW TO APPLY
Complete and submit our online application form. To host an Outreach Program in your community organization please submit an application at least six to eight weeks prior to the anticipated start date. Program coordination will not begin until a completed application has been received. Applications are processed on a first come, first served basis.

FEES
All programs and workshops in community organizations are provided free of charge to both the host organization and the participants.
ART MATERIALS
All materials will be provided by Arts for Children and Youth.
SET-UP/CLEAN-UP
Arts for Children and Youth encourages its artists to speak with and/or visit the community groups that they will be working with, in order to finalize workshop details and expectations. Outreach Artists will need some assistance in the set-up and clean-up for each scheduled visit (for example: arranging for AV Equipment, washing art tools, arranging desks etc.). A facilitator from your organization who is familiar with the children must be present during the workshop. Our workshops are designed to fit in the time designated, so any activities or events that may conflict with the outreach program should be rescheduled. Notification of schedule changes/cancellations should be reported to AFCY at least one week prior to the first visit.

SPECIAL NEEDS
Workshops can be tailored for children and youth with special needs. Program experiences are geared to engage students with physical and learning challenges.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS
Arts for Children and Youth offers professional development workshops for community workers who are directly involved in an Outreach Program, as well as for the other adults within the host organization. These two-hour in-service workshops are designed to lead participants through a series of hands-on experiences, which include art appreciation, studio techniques and lesson planning in visual art, drama and music. Effective strategies for integrating the arts into core curriculum areas will also be discussed and demonstrated.
