BOARD OF DIRECTORS

AFCY is governed by a nine-member Board of Directors to whom the Executive & Artistic Director reports. The members of the Board of Directors come from diverse cultural backgrounds. The combined Board expertise of the current members includes education, nonprofit management, human resources development, communication, law, financial management, and community development. The Board supports AFCY with astute financial acumen and governance knowledge.

Clare Davenport – Consultant with an MBA in International Business, specializing in strategic planning, marketing and fund-raising for the non-profit sector, and e-business strategy and business plan development for the private sector.

Karen Falconer, Secretary – Superintendent of Education, Toronto District School Board, Falconer’s expertise includes curriculum development, community partnership development, and mentoring particularly within the context of underserved communities and students

Lyndsay Green, Past Chair – A learning technology consultant, Green has worked with non-profit organizations for three decades. She is Chair of the Board of Trustees of the University of Toronto Art Centre and was a member of the George Brown Theatre School Fundraising Cabinet.

Nicole Jolly, Vice Chair – VP, Operations for FLOW 93.5 FM, a popular Toronto music station. Jolly has been a volunteer with Tropicana Community Services in Scarborough since 2001. She is a Director at FACTOR (The Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings), a foundation that provides in excess of $14 million annually to support the Canadian Music Industry. She is currently a member of the Appeals Committee of the United Way of Greater Toronto.

Merle Kriss, Treasurer – A private wealth management consultant, Kriss has trained as a program director for Social Services. She is the past Chair of the Glenn Gould Foundation and a Board Member for Human Rights Watch.

Jeff Pentland – Managing Director with Northleaf Capital Partners, a leading global private markets advisory firm.

Melanie Smith – Senior Employment Equity Consultant with the City of Toronto, where she provides diversity related expertise to the organization. In addition to her work at the City, she is participating in DiverseCity Fellows, a one-year leadership development program for rising city builders. She has extensive non-profit experience, including four years as Executive Director of MediaWatch.

Howard Sutton – Sutton is Founder & President of Tera Capital Corporation and has substantial business skills, governance and board experience.

Ann Wilson, Chair – Wilson is an artist and public policy lawyer, with particular expertise in immigration and settlement issues. She is an active volunteer in the Toronto community, having served as board member and advisor to a number of charitable organizations.
