Dara Gellman

Toronto artist Dara Gellman’s video / installation works have been presented across Canada and internationally in over 80 exhibitions and screenings. As an arts educator, Dara is committed to exploring media and visual arts as a vehicle for creative expression, personal empowerment and media literacy; in addition to a decade of teaching media and visual arts to youth throughout Toronto, focusing on at-risk and LGBT youth, her educational accomplishments included founding the long-running Inside Out Queer Youth Digital Video Project, co-founding the Tranz Tech Toronto International Media Art Biennial, and was Project Director of Vtape’s Video Art in Canada website hosted by the Virtual Musuem of Canada. Dara is the recipient of a multiple Ontario Arts Council Artist in Education grants, was recently awarded grants from the Canada Council, Ontario Arts Council and the Toronto Arts Council. Dara teaches regularly in the TDSB through the Artist in Education program of the Ontario Arts Council, and as an arts educator for Arts for Children and Youth (AFCY), and Learning Through the Arts (LTTA), working with at-risk and under-served student populations throughout Toronto, through classroom, after school and community based art programs.
